Making sausage for breakfast or dinner is always a good choice. Sausage is a very adaptable cuisine that tastes wonderful on its own or as an ingredient in pasta dishes or grilled veggies! You can enjoy your breakfast without worrying about becoming sick if you make sure your sausage is cooked through. - Make sure that the internal temperature is between 71 and 74 °C, or 160 and 165 °F
All sausages should, in general, fall within this range. Your sausage needs additional time to cook if it isn’t.
Without Meat Thermometer
- Ensure that the sausage has clear juices and is firm
Using tongs, pick up the sausage and hold it in the air. Is it sturdy and largely upright? Then it’s probably finished. Additionally, make sure the sausage’s fluids in the pan or baking sheet are clear. If they are, it’s probably ready to eat. Your sausage needs extra time if it’s floppy like a noodle or if the juices are pink.
- Check to see if the sausage is taupe or brown after cutting it open
Use a knife to cut the sausage in two and inspect the inside if you want to be extra sure. A sausage that is underdone may have pink or crimson insides, whereas a done sausage will be taupe or brown throughout.
Generally speaking, you can consume a sausage if the inside is still somewhat pink (eating underdone beef and pork is usually good). The inside of the sausage should be largely taupe or brown, though.
Boiling
- Heat up a kettle of water to a boil
A wonderful approach to make sure sausages are cooked through before frying or grilling is to boil them. Take a saucepan big enough to fit your sausages, add water to it, and place it over high heat until it reaches a rolling boil.
- Submerge the sausages in water and cook them for thirty minutes
After carefully putting the sausages in the water with tongs, reduce the heat to medium. Most sausages require about 30 minutes to cook, so to ensure you don’t forget, set a timer on your oven or phone.
- Pan-fry the sausages for more taste and color

It’s time to sear the sausages! Using tongs, place the almost done sausages on the grill and cook for 5 to 10 minutes, or until they reach 160 to 165 °F (71 to 74 °C).
Pan-Frying
- Add the sausages to a nonstick pan that has been warmed over medium heat
Choose a non-stick pan because sausages tend to adhere to cooking utensils. Place the sausages in the pan and set your burner to medium heat. As the sausages cook, their fat will drip onto the pan, further decreasing the likelihood of the sausages sticking to the pan.
- Turn the sausages over frequently for even color
To turn and reposition the sausages in the pan, use tongs. In this manner, the sausage will become golden brown on both sides rather than just one. Turning the sausages frequently aids in their proper cooking.
- Cook for 15 to 20 minutes
Sausage frying only takes around twenty minutes, so as the sausages cook, keep an eye on them. When the sausages are almost done, the outsides will turn a light golden brown.
Baking
- Preheat the oven to 374 °F (190 °C)
For the sausages to cook through, the temperature must be around medium. As you prepare the sausages, preheat the oven.
- Put 1 tbs (15 mL) of olive oil into a roasting pan
Your sausages will become a wonderful brown color and will not stick to the pan if you use olive oil. After lining the pan with foil, pour in the olive oil.
- Brush the sausages with oil and bake for 20 to 25 minutes
After placing the sausages on the pan with tongs, turn them over so that the oil covers them. After about 20 minutes, take them out of the oven and check the internal temperature.

Notes:
- Oven roasting most sausages, raw or smoked, doesn’t require any special preparation. The main distinction between the two is that whereas smoked sausages can be chopped in advance (thus reducing the total cook time), raw sausages must be cooked whole and then cut.
